Downtown Yakima Rotary Youth Programs

Youth Exchange

Each year Yakima Rotary sponsors two exchange students to come live in Yakima for an academic school year. This program fosters global understanding of various countries and its cultures. Each student has the privilege of living with different families thru out the year. The benefits of this multi-family hosting ensure the exchange students have a chance to experience different lifestyles of American families. Each exchange student attends a local High School while living in Yakima. The rewards are enormous for the host families (and exchange students) and the relationships formed usually lead to bond that lasts a lifetime.

At the same time (as we host exchange students) Yakima Rotary also selects two students that travel abroad to experience living in another country. Both of these programs are open only to High School students and is an opportunity only offered thru Rotary clubs worldwide. The Rotary youth exchange is considered one of the best (and safest) exchange programs in the world.

Interact Clubs

Yakima Rotary is the host club for three area Interact clubs. An Interact club is a high school program aimed at promoting the same values and principles that Rotary International advocates. Those essential elements include leadership, community service, and world understanding. We are proud sponsors of the Interact clubs at Davis High School, Eisenhower High School, and West Valley High School. Each of these clubs is very involved in community activities and can often be found working alongside Yakima Rotary club members. While Yakima Rotary is the sponsor of each club, they organize and plan their own projects each year. Visit our Projects page for current projects.

Opportunities after High School:

Each year in May the Yakima Rotary club has the opportunity to sponsor two (or more) young adults to travel to Naramata BC (Canada) to attend a leadership workshop. This event is presented by our Rotary District and is open to anyone aged 18-25. At this three day workshop attendee’s will learn to hone their leadership skills, work on their communication skills, develop better problem solving and management skills, and expand their community and global awareness. This is a fantastic experience and the cost is usually just a commitment of your time and eagerness to learn and grow.
