Rotary Youth Exchange

Yakima Rotary participates in the Rotary Youth Exchange Program that takes a high school student within our Rotary District from the U.S. or Canada and sends them to another country for up to a year.  At the same time, a student from another country is brought here. Some of the countries we exchange with include Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Turkey and India.

Students partaking in one of these exchanges are changed for life.  Not only do these students learn a new language, but the learn about the cultures and traditions of these different counties. The end goal of the program is to promote peace, understanding and friendship around the world.  When you get to know and understand other people, you make them your friends.

Yakima Rotary sponsors one to two inbound exchange students to live in Yakima for an academic school year. Each student has the privilege of living with different families thru out the year. The benefits of this multi-family hosting ensure the exchange students have a chance to experience different lifestyles of American families. Each exchange student attends a local High School while living in Yakima. The rewards are enormous for the host families (and exchange students) and the relationships formed usually lead to bond that lasts a lifetime.

At the same time (as we host exchange students) Yakima Rotary also selects two students that travel abroad to experience living in another country. Both of these programs are open only to High School students and is an opportunity only offered thru Rotary clubs worldwide. The Rotary youth exchange is considered one of the best (and safest) exchange programs in the world.
